Ketaki Foundation Trust, partnering with Swabhiman, shared a delightful experience putting together a panel discussion on ‘disAbility in Visual Art and Design’ during their 18th Anjali International Festival for Children and Youth on 17th November 2019 at Rail Auditorium, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar.
The panel discussion was moderated by Veejayant Dash, an eminent artist and art activist. The event was chaired by Pradosh Mishra, HOD, History, Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
Participants were K K Rath, an illustrious cartoonist and graphic designer, Satyabhusan Hota, a leading mural designer and painter, Neha Das, faculty, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bhubaneswar and Nagashree C., NIFT, Bhubaneswar. The discussion was attended by a good number of keen audiences.
The discussions went around challenges faced and overcome by disabled visual artists and designers as experienced and narrated by KK Rath himself. The immense contributions made to the world of art by determined and talented artists with disabilities was presented through a talk and slides by Satyabhusan Hota, Neha Das presented a slide show of her experience of conducting a fashion show with and for the disabled. Nagashree C. presented and explained her research and its outcome that painted a feeling of hope for the comfort and wellbeing of the disabled. The panel discussion was summed up in an excellent manner by Prof. Pradosh Mishra, himself an eminent visual artist. The audience also participated through some thought-provoking questions and the panellists were more than glad to answer and address their concerns. The programme concluded with a thanking note from Jyotiranjan Swain, Managing Trustee, Ketaki Foundation and Dr. Sruti Mohapatra, Swabhiman and felicitation to the participants.
