An enlightening panel discussion on “Disability in Literature,” hosted by the Ketaki Foundation Trust in collaboration with Swabhiman, Bhubaneswar, on November 16, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Kala Bhoomi, Bhubaneswar. This event aims to explore the vital intersection of disability and literature, shedding light on the challenges faced by the disability community and the importance of inclusive storytelling. Our esteemed panelists will include Jyoti Nanda, an eminent writer and author, who will delve into the portrayal of characters in both Indian and Western literature, providing examples of nuanced representations. Kedar Mishra, a renowned journalist, poet, and critic, will share his insights on how Odia authors have often portrayed disabled characters negatively within mythological contexts.

Adding to the discussion, Dr. Sruti Mohapatra, Founder and CEO of Swabhiman, will advocate for ability-based approaches, drawing from her personal experiences to highlight the need for meaningful change in literary representation and the implementation of supportive government regulations for individuals with disabilities. Finally,  Ramakant Samantaray, an acclaimed painter and writer, will celebrate the successes of differently-abled artists like Frida Kahlo, illustrating that creativity knows no bounds and can flourish in the face of challenges.
