EDITORIAL NOTE
Jayanta Mahapatra started publishing Chandrabhāgā in 1979 and continued it until his passing in 2023. The journal is now revived as a tribute to the poet, translator, essayist and editor that Jayanta Mahapatra was. Apart from poetry, the journal will also publish fiction and non-fiction, criticism and cultural studies, along with review-essays of the books of poems published in recent years.

Jayanta Mahapatra wrote Bhor Motira Kanaphula, his autobiography, in Odia, which Madhumita Chanda is translating for Sahitya Akademi. Sudeep Sen’s latest anthology is Converse: Contemporary English Poetry by Indians. He delivered Derek Walcott Lecture at the Noble Laureate Festival. Ashutosh Parida received Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Aprastuta Mrutyu. Chittaranjan Mishra has translated works of Harold Pinter, Albert Camus and Ashutosh Parida. Vinita Agrawal has four collections of poems, including The Silk of Hunger. She was awarded Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize. Kavita Ezekiel Mendonca’s biography of her father is titled Nissim Ezekiel: Poet & Father. Ankit Raj Ojha has published his poems in journals like Poetry Wales and The Honest Ulsterman and is a consulting editor with Routledge journals. P. P. Raveendran has contributed to Chandrabhāgā since 2018. His latest book is Under the Bhasha Gaze: Modernity and Indian Literature (Oxford University Press, 2023). Sukirtharani, author of nine collections of poems, features in The Verso Book of Feminism: Revolutionary Words From Four Millennia of Rebellion. N. Srivatsa’s collection of translated Tamil poetry is Modern Tamil Poetry: A Miniature Canvas – Volume I. Anitha N Jayaram is a copy editor and translator. She has translated two books from English to Tamil. Vibha Rani is a well-known writer, poet, playwright and theatre actor. Director of Sindhi feature film Aakhreen Train, Susheel Gajwani is the author of an English play, A Thousand Temple Bells. Udaya Narayan Singh’s Sahitya Akademi Award-winning book is Jahalak Dairy. Nilim Kumar is recipient of Viswambhara Dr. C. Narayan Reddy National Literary Award, 2025. Author of a number of translated books, Bibekananda Choudhury has his translations in anthologies like the Penguin Book of Poems on Indian Cities. M. R. Renukumar is a recipient of Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award. Shyma Pacha teaches English in a college in Kannur. Gopinath Mohanty is a Jnanapith Award-winning novelist whose novels like Paraja and Amrutara Santana are modern classics. Jayashree Samantaray’s translation of a collection of Odia short stories on tribal life into English will be published soon. Naseem Shafaie is recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award. A. N. Dhar and Indu Kilam are distinguished professors and translators from Kasmiri launguage. Neerja Mattoo is the author of The Mystic and the Lyric: Four Women Poets from Kashmir. Recipient of State Sahitya Akademi Award, Prabal Kumar Basu has authored twenty-two books of poems. Owshnik Ghosh, an earlier contributor to Chandrabhāgā, is pursuing his PhD. in University of Oklahoma. Barnali Roy, editor and translator, is publisher of Yapanchitra books. Arpita Kundu’s latest collection of poems is Purechhe Naam Mayur Aahorone. She has received Kritibas Puraskar. Abhijit Bera has five collections of poems and is the recipient of Yapanchitra Poetry Award. Trina Chakraborti has seven collections of poems. She is presently working in a publishing company in Delhi. Bharadwaj Mishra is the author of poetry collections including Bathing Ghat at Kotipalli. Rachita Swain’s reviews have appeared in World Literature Today, KITAAB and Chandrabhāgā.
